At Happy Kids Clifton we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and use a teaching method called in the moment planning. This method of teaching was chosen to ensure your child’s learning and interests are at the heart of what we do. Our aim is to support your child in becoming more confident, independent and engaged in their learning. We will plan and teach, treating each child as an individual and allowing them to achieve their best.
What is ‘In the Moment’ planning?
A teaching approach that allows child initiated learning (the child to lead and make decisions) through play, based on capturing the interests of the children through personalised learning. Your child’s key person will take into consideration your child’s interests to create meaningful educational experiences through providing an enabling environment, using quality interactions and ‘teachable moments’.
What are ‘teachable moments’?
Teachable moments are about recognising that young children often learn in a more informal and creative way. Within this style of teaching, we are looking for opportunities to allow learning to take place through child initiated play alongside providing challenge and open ended questioning when needed.
What will we do?
We will provide an environment and opportunities at nursery that stimulate your child’s curiosity and challenge their thinking.
We will observe and listen closely to the children’s play.
We will work alongside you to create environments that will spark the children’s interest.
We will praise and reinforce positive learning experiences.
How do we record this learning?
Once a term your child will become the focus child. At this point your child will be observed, assessed and planned for to meet their needs and interests. Each child will be a ‘focus child’ for 1 week.
How can you help?
The week before your child is the focus child we will send home a questionnaire. It would be really helpful it you could complete this and return it to us as soon as possible. Please share anything that your child is currently interested in playing and anything significant happening at home, e.g. If you child has started asking questions about the weather, any exciting news, holidays etc. Please send in any photos of your child at home, either printed, emailed to us, or via facebook messenger as we will document these in their learning journeys. We would be grateful if you could do this as it is helpful in your child’s learning and progression.
Thank you for reading about our approach at Happy Kids Clifton, which was chosen to ensure your child’s interests and learning is at the heart of what we do. If you have any questions, please feel free to speak to your child’s key person.
